Okotoks Play Session

Sunday March 22nd

It was a 3 player game with Rik, Reuben and Torben. The rules kept getting read wrong and there were missing parts brought up later in each try of the game. We kept resetting the game when we found another rule that greatly impacted the play or introduced a new mechanic. The rules are kind of all over the place but if someone were to read them through before play they should see everything there, it's just not very fluid.

So aside from the rules problems, which we think if rewritten could make the game flow better, we saw some good potential in how the game should play. We only played with 3 players so that was our only comparison but we could see that more players would really make it different. Any of the groups trying this game should play it with 3, 4, 5 players, I think it goes to 5.

The game is a card game that employs 4 rounds of auctions to build your hand and army before going to war. Each player gets the chance in each game round to propose an auction for everyone to bid on that can include cards and/or war stuff. The war stuff are things like Fighter Planes, Artillery, Scouts, Lancers, and Assault, currently the artwork shows them as various mechs like from Battletech or something. We'll call it equipment for lack of a better term.

Once the 4 rounds have completed then you go to war playing cards from your hands and earning money and destroying your opponents based on the cards you play and the equipment you have. The player with the most money at the end wins.

In our complete game, Reuben smashed us by having just tons of fodder to eat up attacks from Rik and I. It's a good strategy and he employed it in an early round when Rik and I were still fresh off another reset that had us thinking there was other ways to be successful. It bears more scrutiny by more players but I think it's a nice fresh idea for a card game that can be played in probably 30-50 minutes and it doesn't need a big playing space.

Try with more players and try it a couple times to see if it changes and try different strategies to see if there are more ways to win.
